A few days ago I was reading “Aspire: Discovering Your Purpose Trough the Power of Words” by Kevin Hall. Each chapter examines a different inspiring word, and the chapter I opened to was “Namasté.”
Namasté (nah-mah-STAY) is spoken with your hands in prayer position, thumbs touching the heart, and head bowing as you say it. Basically, it means “I honor the place in you where the entire universe resides. I honor the place in you of light, love, truth, peace and wisdom” (Gandhi). I have also heard other similar interpretations.
Think about the energy of honoring the best in someone else, and the best in yourself. Allow yourself to feel the holiness, the sacredness, of it. The world could certainly use more of that energy, right? When you look in the mirror in the morning, instead of finding fault with yourself, honor yourself by saying Namasté. If you have friends who are familiar with this word, use it as a greeting of honor. For other people you meet who probably won’t know what you mean, just say something like, “I honor the light in you” (or the love in you or the truth in you). The reverence you show for yourself and others exponentially increases the light in the world.
Namasté.
